How to Participate

Correspondence is a participatory project.

Once a week I email a prompt and invite subscribers to send a short observation describing something they noticed the previous week.

One observation is selected at random and becomes the starting point for a painting made in my studio in Sanremo, Italy.

When the painting is finished, it is divided into two parts:

  • one half is sent to the participant

  • the other half remains in my studio archive

Over time this creates a distributed archive of paintings shared between participants around the world.

It’s completely free to participate.

How it works

  1. Subscribe to the project (free).

  2. Each Thursday you receive a weekly prompt.

  3. Reply to the email with your observation.

  4. One observation is randomly selected each day.

  5. I create a painting from the observation.

  6. The painting finished painting is divided in two.

  7. One half is posted to the participant of the chosen observation.

Chapters

The project runs in chapters lasting a few weeks.

Chapter 1
New Beginnings
2 April – 29 April 2026
duration 4 weeks

You may submit one observation per week.

Example Weekly Prompt

A weekly prompt might be:

Notice something starting …
During the past week, tell me about something that has just begun.

Observations can be simple and informal. They do not need to be poetic or carefully written. For example:

  • “The first swallow appeared above the rooftops this morning.”

  • “A new café opened on the corner of my street.”

  • “The supermarket put out strawberries for the first time this year.”

  • “Someone planted flowers in the empty window box next door.”

A single sentence of 5 to 30 words is perfect.
